Crafty Gardener’s “Gobbles the Turkey” Planter

Materials:  Yellow, green, brown, and red foam sheets
                 One 4 inch clay pot
                 One 11/2 inch clay pot
                 One 2 inch Styrofoam ball
                 Brown, black, white, and tan (mix white and brown) indoor/outdoor paint
                 Paint brush
                 Tacky glue
                 2 goggle eyes
                 Straight pins

Directions:

1. Cut the Styrofoam ball in half and paint both halves brown.

2. Paint the 4-inch pot brown and the one ½-inch pot black.

3. Cut three tail feathers from the yellow, brown, and green foam to make nine feathers.

4. Cut a beak and buckle from yellow foam and a wattle from the red foam.

5. Cut 2 wings from brown foam;

6. Highlight pot, wings, feathers etc. with paint.

7. Take one half of the Styrofoam ball and glue feathers to the flat side to make a tail. (See photo)  Hold in place with straight    pins until glue dries.

8. Glue tail to the rim of the 4-inch pot.

9. Glue the wings to the sides of the pot.

10.  Using the other half of the Styrofoam ball, glue on the components of the face.

11.  Glue the head to the rim opposite the tail.

12.  Glue the buckle on the small pot to make the hat.

13.  Glue the hat on the turkey’s head

14.  Choose a small plant such as pothos or ivy and plant it in the 4-inch pot.  Water and add a saucer.

15.  Optional:  add a sign on a wooden pick with a saying such as “Happy Thanksgiving” or “Eat Fish!”
